- Well, it looks like I'm going to have to see People Like Us, since it features "LA as the fifth character in the movie." Knowing how I am, though, I'll catch it on Netflix in five years, after the DVD has been sitting on my kitchen counter for six months. Ha! Still, I love movies about the "real" LA (A Single Man comes to mind). Oh, and Chris Pine. Yes.
- Have you jumped on the colored jeans trend yet? I want to (mint green skinny jeans, please!) but haven't been able to find the right pair. Picky much?
- Tips on decorating for and with dogs (but I can do without the pooping pooch lamp!).
- For those times when a thumbs-up or thumbs-down just isn't enough, there's ReadrBoard. WTF? ;-)

I'm Mad About...
Good morning!
Have a great weekend, and be careful out there—it's Friday the 13th!
- Don't forget to pick up a copy of Domino Quick Fixes, available on Wednesday (except for you lucky New Yorkers, who can find it on newsstands beginning today!).
- Looking for good food and a good time in LA? Check out this new site, Mister Boffin.
- I really, really want to make this. It looks so good—and oh so bad!

Art and Architecture
While we were in LA last weekend, we hit LACMA for the California Design, 1930-1965: Living in a Modern Way exhibit. It's a must for any fan of midcentury modern design. From Barbie to Oscar, this has it all—even a full-scale reproduction of the Eames House living room. We weren't allowed to take pictures of that, but I did get some snaps of other exhibits:
The red gun in the first picture is an ice crusher. So inventive and fun! And what little girl (or big girl) wouldn't want to play with that 1962 Barbie Dream House? There was even a 1965 commercial for Polaroid ("Meet the Swinger"—sounds risqué!) with a young Ali MacGraw.

Hollywood Days
Good news: The blind and deaf dog's owner called Friday night and came to get her! It was perfect timing, too, because we had a weekend getaway planned. Yah!
We met up with some friends in Hollywood to celebrate my birthday, which is this week. It's becoming a tradition—we did the same thing last year and are already talking about getting together next year. And check out the gorgeous purse Jana made for me! Ah, the benefits of having a talented friend who knows how to sew!
The weather—as usual—was perfect. We hit our usual haunts plus a few new places, including LACMA for the Living in a Modern Way midcentury modern and the In Wonderland surrealist women exhibits. And I ate way too much! Totally worth the dieting I'm going to have to do this week.
We even had a celeb sighting at the Farmers Market—the very pretty Sarah Wright, who was in the canceled-too-soon Mad Love and a few episodes this season's Parks and Recreation.
I hope you all had a great weekend and have a wonderful week ahead.

LA (Shopping) Story
Even though we're less than two hours from Los Angeles, we don't get down there very often, mainly because of the dogs. I hate leaving them alone all day, and it's a lot of trouble to board them. But we happened to have a dog-sitter Saturday, so we took advantage of it and went for a drive.
The destination: the Westfield Century City. I had never been there, but it has some stores I've been wanting to check out in person and some I hadn't been to in a long time. Plus I love that part of town.
First stop: H&M. The only H&M store I'd been to was in London, and I was dying to visit one closer to home. And I wasn't disappointed—it was full of affordable goodies.
Erik said no to this dress (that's kind of a big deal, 'cause he almost never says no):
But these pretty frocks went home with me:
On the way to Madewell, we took a detour into Teavana, and I fell in love with two very different tea sets. This one in classic white with a bit of simple flourish:
And this, in all its gilded glory:
I love the idea of afternoon tea (must be the Anglophile in me), and I'm sure I'd make use of either of those sets. If only...
After a brief (and underwhelming) stop at Zara, I made it to Madewell:

I'm Mad About...
This weekend I'm looking forward to a day trip to LA and checking out some stores I've been dying to visit in person.
I also want to thank Danielle of Danielle Oakey Interiors for adding The Blue Room to her blogroll. Check out her beautiful blog, and be sure to visit her home tour—gorgeous! (And if any other design/fashion/lifestyle bloggers want to add The Blue Room to your blogrolls or follow the blog, I'd be happy to reciprocate!) Also thanks to everyone who has left such lovely comments lately. I really do appreciate hearing from you!
Now, without further ado, here are some things that have inspired me this week:
